Donations accepted Tuesday, May 3 – Wednesday, May 18

Helen at check out copy(SHARON, MA) – It’s nearly time to restock your shelves with best-selling books, DVDs and other media at a fraction of their original prices.

The Friends of the Sharon Public Library (The Friends) will once again sponsor its biggest fundraiser of the year: the Annual Used Book Sale on Thursday, May 19 – Sunday, May 22. The much-anticipated event traditionally raises $6,000 - $8,000 a year and provides crucial financial support for adult and children’s programming and the purchase of items such as large print books, DVDs, desks, chairs and other furnishings. Thousands of books are typically donated to the sale. Sale prices range from $.50 to $2.00 per book.

Kirstin Gray, President of The Friends, comments that despite the increasing use of e-readers, the Used Book Sale remains popular with both buyers and donors. “We have not seen a drop-off in either attendance or donations,” she observes.

With trade paperbacks and children’s books the most sought-after items at the Used Book Sale, The Friends are seeking donations of newer fiction and non-fiction books for adults and children as well as audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, records, and books in foreign languages, especially Russian and Chinese. All donations should be in gently used or better condition; nothing moldy or missing a cover will be accepted. To sweeten the deal, The Friends will host a sale of delicious baked goods on Saturday, May 21.

The Used Book Sale to benefit the Sharon Public Library (SPL) is generously sponsored by Eastern Bank and Herb Chambers Lexus in Sharon. Hours are Friday, May 20, 1-6 pm; and Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22, 9 am – 5 pm. Preview hours for members of The Friends are Thursday, May 19, 3 pm – 9 pm. Not a member yet? Join at the door to enjoy the best selection at the Sale.

Donations of gently used books and other media will be accepted at the SPL from Tuesday, May 3 – Wednesday, May 18, during regular library hours.
